From the time that we have been using numbers for tracing to the present, we have been using number tracing worksheets. This is a tool that is used to document phone numbers. In our lifetime, we have probably seen a number appearing in print or on television, and if we have not, then we should look out for it.

The reason that we use a tracing worksheet is that we do not really know what we are looking for when we are reading a number. Usually, we are just trying to figure out how to reach the person on the other end of the line. If we read the number one hundred times, we can probably get the gist of it. If we see that number once and read it one hundred times, we can be a little more accurate.

What we find most useful are working numbers for most people. This includes not only landlines but also mobile and toll-free numbers. There are specific formulas to be followed when working with these numbers. The first is to make sure that the digits are separate from each other, except for a couple of them. This is usually where we make a mistake when we first start tracking down these numbers.

This is the basic concept that people get wrong. Sometimes, this does not stop them, but just adds to the confusion. They will use the same number with two different digits, and they will have no idea why.

Second, we have to be careful about the period after the number. We do not want to use a period without leading it up to something. Using the period without leading the reader is a dead giveaway.

Third, the number of spaces after the period are also important. This is because there can be many periods between the number and the name. Using too many spaces can really complicate things for us and we are much better off sticking to one or two spaces.

Fourth, the length of the number is also important. We want the length to be long enough that the reader can read it but not so long that the number will take up a lot of space. Tracing worksheets have been around for a very long time. They have been used by detectives and by anyone who has had a number in their life.
